Discoid lupus rashes are usually painless and do notitch, but scarring can cause permanent hair loss (alopecia). Systemic lupus is not understood well enough to be prevented, but, when the disease develops, quality of life can be improved through flare prevention. People who have drug-induced lupus usually see their symptoms go away when they stop taking the medication. Pregnant mothers with lupus are monitored closely by obstetricians.
Discoid lupus erythematosus is a chronic skin disorder in which a red, raised rash appears on the face, scalp, or elsewhere. Most of the drugs associated with drug-induced lupus can be safely used in people with SLE or discoid lupus if there are no suitable alternatives. The immune system normally protects the body by producing antibodies that attack foreign germs and cancers.
